Locals honored in MAIS Softball
Several area athletes were honored as District 6-2A of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools released its 2009 softball all-district selections. District 6-2A champion Priarie View Academy's selections are Kara Burchfield, Molly Gregory, Mallory Hall, Caroline Oliphant and Lena Kate Thompson. Kayla Tyson of Prairie View Academy was selected as the MVP of District 6-2A.
Prairie View Academy won the South State 2A Softball Tournament and the MAIS Class 2A softball tournament. District runner-up River Oaks' selections are Lauren Halley, Megan Long, Samantha Thurmon and Jana Whatley. Receiving nonorable mentions were Victoria Billings and Leslie Spires from PVA, Amber Kovak and Jamie Ross from River Oaks.
The 2009 Lady Spartan Softball Team received their State Championship rings between games during the
Yvette West Memorial Basketball Tournament on December 10th.
